MGM Resorts International was constructing a new, world-class casino and resort in National Harbor, MD that would employ 5,000 workers beginning Opening Night. In an effort to improve hiring outcomes, meet local-hiring requirements and increase retention, MGM contracted with SkillSmart to utilize its Seeker platform to align the skills needed for more than 250 job categories, with the skills of local residents, and the training and education programs of local community colleges, universities and non-profits. Upon opening, MGM had exceeded it’s local hiring requirements in filling its available positions. The more than 2000 applicants using the skills-based hiring platform were twice as likely to be hired and had a 50% higher retention rate than those coming through traditional hiring modalities.
